Standing

Dean recently learned how to stand up without grabbing anything. Now there is no stopping him!

Birthday (part 2)

Last weekend (after birthday part 1) we went to my parents to do birthdays for D, my dad and my little bro (all August babies). We had a nice drive up, thanks to a snack cup full of puffs & cheerios for the boy. (they still ended up all over my car, but that's a small price to pay!) When we arrived everyone exclaimed over his new walking skills (he was doing 1-2 steps last they saw).
The present opening went about the same as the first round had. My mom got Dean a "popcorn popper" and he played with that the whole time that I opened his presents.

He also discovered how much fun stairs can be! I'm SO glad our house is 1 story! He's very good at going up, not so much at coming down!

After a yummy dinner of chicken fajitas (or chicken & sweet potato for the birthday boy) we had some cake. YUM!

1 Year (and a week or so)

My internet has been acting weird (ie, not working) and I've been working like crazy to finish my research poster, SO this post is a little late in coming, but finally it is here!
D turned ONE last Thursday, and I think I'm still in shock. He still has his chubby baby cheeks, but is walking and climbing all over everywhere, so he is turning into quite the little boy. He just figured out how to stand up without holding onto anything, and how to climb on and off the firetruck he got for his birthday. He still hates to sleep (boo) but is getting to be a very good eater. He seems to be allergic to milk, his face turns red and bumpy, which sucks, so that is something to discuss at the doctor on Wednesday, but otherwise loves table food (as long as Mama is eating it!)

For his birthday we went to Red Robin. He couldn't have ice cream, so they brought him a balloon, which he loved! Then we came home for cake & presents. He couldn't care less about the cake, or most of his presents because the first thing he got was the big fire truck. That pretty much took all of his interest away from anything else birthday related.

Bouncy Balls

A few weeks ago I pulled my exercise ball out of the closet, and it soon became one of Dean's favorite toys. It also became one of the cats favorites too, and so it quickly developed a leak (thanks to a cat claw).

Next time we went to Target we stopped in the toy section and picked up a new bouncy ball.

It cracks me up when he walks down the hall with it. The thing is almost as big as him!

The Fair

Last weekend we got some VIP tickets to the county fair, since DH & the store donated to the rodeo. We took Dean and Grandma & Grandpa along for some fun. When we arrived we got to just go straight through the door and in, no waiting in line for us. The rodeo hadn't quite started yet (and I was super hungry) so we went to the special VIP tent for some very yummy food (and beverages!) We went to the rodeo & the announcer embarassed DH by talking to him in front of the whole crowd, but the store got some great promotion, so it was worth it!

It was ridiculously hot sitting in the stands, so we headed outside and let D walk around in the grass for a while (which he LOVES, plus he had Grandma's complete attention, can't beat that!)
We also went and looked at all of the 4-H and FFA animals, which I think I enjoyed at least as much as D. Baby Goats are just too cute!
As we were walking out of the barn there was a huge fan that we had to walk through. At first we didn't think he liked it because he made a weird face, but then D made Grandma & me or dad go back and forth about 10 times.
